The average person has no idea what kind of training our warfighters have to endure prior to walking those patrols on lonely dangerous streets throughout the world: forced marches, physical training so tough that civilians have monetized it under the name “functional fitness”, pressure shoots, reflexive fire drills, sleep deprivation, starvation diets, weeks without a shower, the list goes on and on…

Yet not only do we do it, but our sergeants and young officers sit around and try to imagine ways to make the training more realistic, more stressful, a greater test of our ability. Our hardest warriors push so hard in fact that quitting is not remotely an option to them: injuring ourselves and ignoring the pain, running until heat exhaustion, face planting during a midnight movement because you haven’t slept in 72 hours, then getting up and continuing the movement.

Everyone can throw around phrases like “you fight like you train”, but unless you have endured that training, you have no idea what our trigger pullers are really capable of doing. Years of testing, of reaction drills, of suffering, of mentally pushing themselves to the limits, makes them unstoppable.

Our enemies find this out the hard way. They hole up in caves, in houses. They set ambushes that should destroy us, but somehow our warriors fight through it. They clear the houses, fight through the ambush, seize the objective.

People like to say that U.S., U.K., and Aussie forces win because of equipment, because of technology. The truth is that they win because if we handed them all the equipment we have, we’d still win.

People like to talk about the Spartans as the greatest warriors who have ever lived.

The Agoge has nothing on us.

We are sometimes outnumbered. We are never outgunned.
